OLP News Update

February 19, 2007 Greetings of peace from all of us!

I got back from the regular visitation of our Benedictine brothers of Malaybalay and managed to survive the wear and tear of such an undertaking. It is a relief to be back home and now there is quite a bit of catching up to do with the back log of things to follow up on.

Here's a quick run down of these things:

1. We are finalizing the new and necessary job assignments for the community services so I am tabulating all the suggestions of each one.

2. All the main departments in the community are in full active mode from the farm with the corn harvest, the leveling of some of our rice paddies and the strengthening of the dikes. This job has been greatly helped by the 'new' backhoe and pay loader we acquired in November.

3. The FM [Food Manufacturing] is processing a fair amount of mangoes and pineapple.

Br Rafael, our FM manager is also in the process of negotiating a new MOA with a food company as sole distributor of our TMFP both nationally and overseas though we like that we concentrate nationally first because we are not sure about how much we can supply. We had a look at the draft agreement and Rafael will take it to one of our business friends outside for them to study together. These distributors are the 2nd group who have contacted us in order for us to implement a suggestion from last year's regular visitation. We will have to see how this one turns out though Rafael is upbeat since these people own their own food company.

4. The guesthouse dept. is also at its peak season as regards to bookings because it is towards the end of the school year and towards lent and Easter. We are fixing the waiting shed at the main gate and have also added a new kiosk to the side of the gift shop. I enclose a snap shot of this.

5. The machine shop dept. are also in top gear as they are installing a new submersible pump at one of our wells as the main St Bernard's well is giving less now as the dry season sets in. There are also many repairs to be done with our two old tractors and even our new pay loader has already done some significant changes of parts.

6. At the orchards we are getting a 99 percent blooming rate. But it is not possible to tell how much we will actually harvest as full grown mangoes. It would be great if we could give you a taste of these rather famed mangoes. I also include shots of our trees in the main orchard.

For the moment all our good wishes and best regards.
God bless.

Rev. Father Fil.
